About the Event

In celebration of our 70th year, we wanted to honor and acknowledge contributions made by people living here for a more peaceful world and so the Santa Barbara Peace Prize was created. The criteria for the prize were that the nominees live in our community, and have achieved demonstrable and measurable progress in creating peace in the world, advancing the cause of human rights internationally, and / or advancing the progress of developing nations.

Because the nominations were so incredible, it was very difficult to choose one winner. However, one candidate stood out as truly exceptional with a lengthy list of worldwide achievement in working for the deeper meaning of peace. The first Santa Barbara Peace Prize will be awarded to Rinaldo S. Brutoco, Founding President of the World Business Academy, now in its 30th year. Brutoco's organization is devoted to addressing climate change by working to elevate the consciousness of people involved in business and encouraging them to use their power and influence to take responsibility for the environment. He has served on advisory boards of several non-profits, including The Gorbachev Foundation, the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, the State of the World Forum, the Omega Point Institute, and the National Peace Academy.

The United Nations Association of Santa Barbara will award the first Santa Barbara Peace Prize on United Nations Day, Tuesday, October 24th with a dinner event at Moby Dick Restaurant on the water. The event starts at 5:30 PM.
