About the Event

Climate Refugees: We Must Take Action Now

Tuesday, June 29th

Global warming and rising sea levels threaten to wipe an entire country off the map.  The country of Kiribati (pronounced "Ki-ri-bass") is a chain of 32 islands that contain a rich culture and history. However, rising tides continue to flood homes and destroy crops, and the population of over 100,000 will need to be relocated before these islands disappear into the ocean.

This week we will watch the short film, "Love Note to an Island" and have a chance to hear from our special guests Brady Fergusson (Peace Corps Member, Climate Activist) and Lulu DeBoer (Producer and Director).  Both have spent considerable time on these islands and will help provide a deeper understanding of what is happening to the country of Kiribati.
