A Look Back At 2017

January - UNASB Forum on Human Trafficking

Standing room only crowd. Speakers from US Attorney's Office, District Attorney, Sheriff, Salvation Army, and ACT. Big shout-out to the Hustlers For Humanity for helping organize this event!

April - UNASB Annual Meeting

Great guest speaker Annie Pham, a former Vietnamese refugee, gave a stirring talk. That's Uru with the assist!

July - A Panoramic View of the Refugee Crisis

We hosted a terrific crowd with the Institute of World Culture to view a compelling film on the refugee crisis.

August - UNASB Global Climate Change Summit

We hosted a packed house on UN Youth Day to hear Karl Hutterer on the topic of climate change, and what we can do. This is in service to goal #13 of the 2016 UN Sustainable Development Goals. A poster of the goals is included at the end.

September - Hosted the Southern California Division here in Santa Barbara!

We invaded Moby Dick restaurant on the wharf with a massive team and were electrified by guest speaker Rachel Bowman Pittman from UNA USA in Washington DC.

October - Awarded the First Santa Barbara UNA Peace Prize to Rinaldo Brutoco

We created the Peace Prize this year to recognize work performed by members of our community to advance the cause of peace and human rights around the world. We were thrilled to see the amazing nominations including Emiliano Campobello, Emmanuel Itier, and Sue DeCicco. It was a terrific night of honoring their work and our award recipient Rinaldo Brutoco of the World Business Academy, an accomplished organization that seeks to enlighten business to carry out more sustainable activities for a better world.

And we had some fun!

We took a road trip to Pasadena for the Southern California Division meeting. We had a great time hanging out with the Mayor at the Sister Cities' Dinner. And Imke, our Spirit of the UN, injected the UNASB into the festivities at Earth Day!
